  15.      _w_h_a_t_i_s looks up a given command and gives the header line from the manual
  16.      section.  You can then run the _m_a_n(1) command to get more information.
  17.      If the line starts `name(section) ...' you can do `man section name' to
  18.      get the documentation for it.  Try `whatis ed' and then you should do
  19.      `man 1 ed' to get the manual.

  30.      _w_h_a_t_i_s (_m_a_n -_f) requires that the _w_h_a_t_i_s database be kept up to date by
  31.      running _m_a_k_e_w_h_a_t_i_s(1M) after installing or removing software from the
  32.      system.  If the _w_h_a_t_i_s database is not kept up to date, _w_h_a_t_i_s (_m_a_n -_f)
  33.      will not find entries for new manual pages and will erroneously refer to
  34.      manual pages which no longer exist on the system.
